When God Carries the Ball

“Let the fields be jubilant and everything in them; let all the trees in the forest sing for joy.” – Psalm 96:12

Football carries with it a fan base that is truly energizing, committed, and especially excited and joyful on game day as evidenced in the football stadium parking lots across the nation. The stands filled with people dressed in their team colors. The millions of television viewers cheering from the comfort of their homes.

Each time a team steps onto the field, passes the ball, and runs to score, I am certain that St. Peter sees an enormous amount of prayer flooding heaven. We watch the clock, study the scoreboard, and hold our breath on third-and-long. We celebrate the big plays and wonder about the mistakes. Sometimes entire seasons seem to ride on a single moment.

At times, life can feel that way too.

We worry about our children, our health, our marriages, our finances, and the future. We study every detail and replay every possibility in our minds, hoping we can somehow influence the outcome. But God isn't sitting in the stands wondering what will happen next.

He is already on the field.

He knows where the play is headed long before the ball leaves our hands. He sees the defenders we cannot see and the openings we haven't noticed yet. He understands the game from beginning to end.

That doesn't mean every play unfolds the way we hoped. Sometimes there are losses, injuries, disappointments, and seasons we would never have chosen. Yet even then, God carries us forward.

The greatest comfort isn't knowing the score. It's knowing who is carrying the ball.

Heavenly Father, thank You for being strong enough to carry what I cannot. When I am watching the clock, worrying about the outcome, or trying to predict the next play, remind me that You already see the whole field. Help me trust You with the parts of life I cannot control. Thank You for carrying the ball when my strength gives out and for carrying me when I cannot take another step. No matter what the scoreboard says, help me remember that You are always faithful. Have a beautiful day, Lord. Amen.

Thank you so much for praying with us. Y'all have a beautiful day!

All My Love,

Jen
