“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.” – Proverbs 16:9

“Jennifer Ann Janecka would you do me the honor of spending your life with me?” I heard the words as my husband got down on one knee to ask me to marry him. It was a magical proposal on the brick bench at our favorite lake. We had walked around it more times than I could count dreaming about what our lives could be. Looking at the beautiful homes across from it. I had picked out our dream home on the corner.

We were so young. I don’t know what we were thinking, but God did. I am not going to say that God’s plan for us was to get married so young, I think that might have been something we did all on our own, but I do believe His plan was for us to get married, have a family, and spend our lives together.

We definitely had a vision for our lives together: work hard, have children, go to church, love God and our family and buy a house. We didn’t think much beyond that, but God does.

He knows and orchestrates our friendships, especially the one we had at Fort Irwin with a beautiful couple we are still friends with today.

The wife was a part of my husband’s command and helped us to feel welcome from the first day we arrived. Their son was just a couple months old when we arrived. Her husband was away at work, so we offered to help her as she needed. Soon the little man was going with us everywhere.

I remember once being in the store with him. A lady stopped to tell me what a beautiful baby he was. I smiled, told her “thank you” and moved along. When I told my friend about the incident she said “Well did you tell her he wasn’t yours?” to which I responded with a smile and laugh “Nope. That never even crossed my mind.” We still laugh about it to this day. It truly never did cross my mind. I think it’s kind of like God smiling down on you. You graciously accept a good well-wish and move on. Nothing more to be said.

I didn’t know that day that God would keep that beautiful baby or his parents in our lives for so long. We have been blessed by them in so many ways. We helped out when their children were small and  now, as our own children enter adulthood, they are so graciously returning the favor. Funny how God works. When I said “yes” to a life with Greg, I didn’t realize I was also saying “yes” to a life with God and all the wonderful steps He had already written in his playbook for us.

We could have never dreamed of the team of people He would bring into our lives and are so honored by all of the friendships we have come to know and share.

Heavenly Father, thank You for sending us to places we never dreamed. Thank You for beautiful friendships and a lifetime of plays You mapped out for us. Thank you so much, Lord. Have a beautiful day! Amen.

All My Love,

Jen
