A few years ago we traveled down a long road with sand surrounding us on either side. Behind us a cloud of dust. Ten mile stretch to be exact. It led us to the pearly gates of Ft. Irwin, CA, our home just 20 years before. When we moved there no one could have predicted the joy that we found with friends who became like family. And, the quiet respite that we found there filled with much laughter and love.
We celebrated our first anniversary there. We celebrated the birth of our friend’s first child. We celebrated promotions. We celebrated new jobs. We celebrated softball team wins. We celebrated new relationships and birthdays. We never had to look far, really there was always someone to celebrate. We were miles to the nearest sign of life, yet we were filled with so much joy, so much life in our tiny military community.
We had little, yet most days we were overwhelmed by the abundance of love that we shared.
Evening walks, dinner talks, gym sessions. We celebrated an extra five minute workout, two extra points on the goal, or a pound lost on the scale. We celebrated it all.
Consider for a moment the celebration that God must have each time another of His children comes home. How delighted He must be when our hearts join with His to become one. Then take a moment to celebrate with Him!
