Armada Smiles

On this last day of June, and in prayer for families walking through life where PTSD is present, thank you for joining us. We truly hope that in some small way, this journey of reflection and prayer has brought a spot of joy to your life.

As we close, I want to share one of my greatest spots of joy – watching our girls back out of the driveway – grown, independent, creating their own adventure, loving their best life.

As parents, we send our children into the world, trusting they will return safely — maybe even a little stronger, wiser and better for the places they have been.

“Love you,” we shout.

Their windows rolled down “Love you too” they call out as they drive away.

Silently I pray, “Lord, be with them. Protect them and their car. Help them make good sound decisions. Keep them safe with You until their return. Amen.”

Each time they walk back through our front door, I breathe a sigh of relief and say “Thank You, Lord for returning them home.”

And, so it is with my husband, most mornings, as he leaves for work he makes our Armada smile. As he heads down the road he taps the brakes and makes the taillights blink in the best way. A simple gesture lets me know he is okay, makes me smile and creates the perfect spot of joy to begin my day.

Every family comes with its own set of challenges. While we may wish things were different, it’s not always possible. The way in which we behave toward one another and those around us, helps us to work through the challenges with grace. A moment in reflection, a gentle word, a simple gesture, a silent prayer, or moment of gratitude all go a long way in bringing or restoring peace, fueling the flame of love, and bringing a spot of joy to our family.

Heavenly Father, thank you for helping us to walk with more peace, trust, strength, and discipline. Thank you for restoring communication once marked by silence. Your undying love for us fuels the flame of love in our family, even as we navigate the challenges of PTSD. Please continue to heal hurting hearts and pull every family close to You. Not everyone will know the joy of an Armada smile, but we can all know the joy of loving You. Thank you, Lord. Have a beautiful day! Amen.

Y'all have a beautiful one!

All My Love,

Jen
