Like a Dolphin

A few times in my life, I have been blessed to take a boat ride far into the ocean to catch  a glimpse of the most spectacular jumping and diving show. Dolphins! Joyfully jumping over and over again in the water. The whole ocean, their playground without a care in the world, except to enjoy time with their family and friends in the water. Playing without hesitation, no burden holding them back, just simply moving freely with their friends and family.

Looking back, I experienced so many of those freeing, joyful times in my life, especially with my brothers and cousins. Running up and down the hall and into the living room at so many houses, pretend weddings and mass celebrations, sandpile creations, exploring the nearest ditch or creek, treasure hunts, laying in the grass, playing football, baseball, volleyball, basketball, and all sorts of other sports, chasing after butterflies with a net, trying to catch a firefly in a jar, dewberry picking, barbies galore, dancing, drawing, playing school, riding bikes, running down the gravel road, seeing our grandparents' faces light up when they saw us, even cleaning windows and dusting was fun.

As we age, life certainly has a way of covering up those memories that brought us great joy and even sometimes steals our joy. Certainly we cannot always play on the playground, there is work to be done after all, but most work can be done with joy in our hearts. Even when we can’t jump with delight, run up and down the halls or dance, our spirit certainly can.

We were not made to live weighed down like we were in deep water. God gave us the ability to move, breathe, and even play —like a dolphin, joyfully jumping, surrounded by those we love everyday.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the gift of dolphins to remind us of all the joy we have experienced in our lifetime. Thank You for surrounding us with family and friends who fill our days with love and laughter. Help us to stay focused on moving, breathing, and even playing with You each day. We are incredibly grateful. Have a beautiful day, God. Amen.

Y'all have a beautiful one!

All My Love,

Jen
