Signing On

At the beginning of each school day, I try to remind myself my work is not my own. It’s not for me, but to be shared with the world or at least the students that I teach and work with each day.

I pray each day God’s love shines through in all I say and do and I want it to.  God is an incredibly special person in my life and I hope that He is in yours too. Though, I have never met him physically and I don’t have a polaroid picture or any picture at all of what He looks like, I know what he looks like in my heart. Most days, I am sure I fall short of the life He wants me to live, but it doesn’t stop me from continuing to visit with Him and try again.

When we sign on with Jesus most of the time we really don't know what we are signing on for, but soon He begins to fill us with the spirit of holiness, guiding us to do well in life, to live well, love well, and serve others well. Sometimes we can grow frustrated or get flustered by the events in life. Not everything goes exactly like we had hoped or planned and it can be daunting at points. When you are working with our Lord though it makes things a bit easier to navigate.

Before I sign into my computer each day, I ask God to bless my work day, the work day of my colleagues and the work day of the students I teach. I relish the moments in prayer and conversation with God before I get on the phone with students or hop into a meeting with colleagues. I look forward to hearing and learning about my students’ and colleagues’ successes, the challenges they face, and the obstacles they overcome.

When I signed on to teach, I didn’t know I was actually signing on to a lifelong adventure of growth, discovery, and love. Working with people everyday isn’t always the easiest. We all have our good days and our bad. Learning this, I decided to sign on for the moments of joy - the moment when an excited student runs down the hall to tell you what they learned or came to realize, the moment with a student signing into live lesson, not really wanting to work, but showing up anyway, the moment a colleague calls just to check on you, or reaches out with tears flowing down their face after receiving difficult news. Life with all its twists and turns may not always feel joyful or exciting, but in those quiet, contemplative moments we can see joy gently overwhelming our souls.

Heavenly Father, thank you so much for encouraging us to sign on with life. Thank you for the way in which you work in and through us each day to bring Your love into our world and for encouraging joy to gently overwhelm our soul. Thank you so much for this day, Lord. Have a beautiful one. Amen.

Y'all have a beautiful one!

All My Love,

Jen
