In Every Circumstance

Life is typically not all that exciting. Sure, there are things that happen throughout our day that might be out of the ordinary. It’s someone’s birthday at work. Your husband surprises you with a cup of your favorite coffee. Your child brings home a super heartfelt creation, or your Mom shows up with chicken noodle soup and it tastes like your best day, yet… But the truth is for most of us these moments don’t happen often, so how do we find joy in the mundane?

The laundry let’s say for instance… that load of never ending loads. Though it can sometimes feel like all we do is laundry, take a moment to think about the clothes you are wearing, the money it took to buy the clothes, the people who manufactured the clothes, the farmers who grew the crops to make the products that help make the clothes. Next, consider your children and spouse wearing the clothes and how good it feels to know they are wearing good clothing. Be excited for the washer and dryer. Thankful for the automation of the wash and not needing to handwash in the river or hang them on the line to dry.

Taking a moment to pray, sing, or dance while you are doing the laundry helps to relieve stress, gives you a bit more time with God, and can even burn a few extra calories. Make it a game with your children and soon they will be folding their own clothes. And, then they will become teenagers and suddenly everything you taught them falls out of their head and onto the floor including the folded clothes. Keep praying, singing and dancing maybe even a little more during these times. You will see that this behavior too shall pass and soon you will be able to dance through their rooms again.

Notice, even in the mundane, God is there. For a moment today, let your joyful spirit sing and dance as you run the kids from here to there, head into the office, are at home, or in the grocery store. Wave at the neighbor as you pass by. Slow down on the road to give the passerby some space. Pray and just breathe in all the goodness God has planned for you. In every circumstance, keep calling on and praising Him.

Heavenly Father, thank you for the reminder that you are always with us, even in the mundane tasks of life. Thank you for your joyful heart and spirit filling ours. Thank you for all the songs and dances. Have a beautiful day, Lord! Amen.

Y'all have a beautiful day!

All My Love,

Jen
