Walk Together - 30 Days of Prayer for Families with PTSD - Day 22

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” Hebrews 11:1.

We cannot see God, yet we know He is there. We cannot see goodness, yet we know it exists. We cannot always see pain, yet we know it exists too. Post-traumatic stress often goes unnoticed because it is dismissed or shrugged off as being something else. Hypervigilance can look like someone being super fixated on their surroundings or an issue resulting in overreaction or an angry misunderstanding. Headaches that bring on inactivity or anger can cause a person to look like they are disengaged or mad about something that you caused when in fact the issue is related to a past trauma. The inability to make decisions can make the person seem as if they do not care or do not have an interest when in fact their anxiety has kicked up and they cannot think clearly. There is help for these issues and we encourage you to seek it if you notice any of these signs in yourself or someone you love. It will take time, but with the right tools and resources you can live the peaceful life you were meant to live.

Pray today for God to show you the best course of action to take in times of trouble and pain. Pray today that He speaks to you through His word to help you and your loved ones to heal.

Prayer to move from Post-Traumatic Stress to Peace, Trust, Strength, and Discipline

Lord, thank you for surrounding us with your deep, deep love and covering us with your grace and mercy. We know that you want all of your children to live peaceful and prosperous lives. At times though, especially after someone has wronged us or we have been traumatized it is hard to move forward. We can get caught in a cycle of fear, worry, shame, and guilt that can distract us from walking with one another and You.

Help us to run with faith towards the foot of the cross trusting that You have everything that we need. Thank you God for showing us the best course of action to take in times of trouble and pain. Thank you for helping us and our loved ones to heal. Help us to focus our time and energy on the love, peace, and joy that You have planned for us. We ask that where our heart and soul are in turmoil that you bring us back to peace. We especially pray for peace and strength for those families in Uvalde, TX as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. We love you and look forward to our continued journey with You as we walk together toward a life filled with more peace, trust, strength, and discipline.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.
