Walk Together - 30 Days of Prayer for Families with PTSD - Day 6

“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me’” Matthew 25:40.

A few months ago, I sat at a stoplight and a gentleman approached my car. His belongings lay near the pole of the stoplight, so I knew he was probably traveling on foot. He did not have a sign and through the window asked if I had any spare money for food. I motioned to let him know I needed to check my wallet. I reached into the backseat for my bag and quickly rifled through it to try and find my wallet before the light changed without success. Fortunately, there was a split in the road which provided me with time to move out of the way of traffic and still hand the money to the gentleman, except now I had pulled way ahead of him. As I inched along I looked in my passenger mirror to see him running to get to me. As I rolled down the window and handed him some money he said “God bless you ma’am!”

As I drove away, I thought about that blessing and about how blessed I had been that day to witness him run towards me with blind faith. He had no idea what or how much he was running towards. He just believed that he needed whatever it was that I had to give. And, I asked God to cover him in so much blessing and to multiply the money I gave him tenfold. I have no idea what happened to the man or what he used the money for, but I did receive a tremendous blessing that day. I realized I don’t have to run far, in fact I do not have to run at all to receive everything that God has to give me. I just need to slow down for a moment, roll down my window and allow His blessing in.

Pray today for God to help you to seize the opportunities that He provides you with to slow down, roll down your window and allow His blessing in. Thank Him for all the blessings in your life and the ones that you are about to receive.

Prayer to move from Post-Traumatic Stress to Peace, Trust, Strength, and Discipline

Lord, thank you for surrounding us with your deep, deep love and covering us with your grace and mercy. We know that you want all of your children to live peaceful and prosperous lives. At times though, especially after someone has wronged us or we have been traumatized it is hard to move forward. We can get caught in a cycle of fear, worry, shame, and guilt that can distract us from walking with one another and You.

Help us to run with faith towards the foot of the cross trusting that You will provide all that we need. Help us to find the strength to refocus our time and energy on the love, peace, and joy that You have planned for us. We ask that where our heart and soul are in turmoil that you bring us back to peace. We especially pray for peace and strength for those families in Uvalde, TX as they mourn the loss of their loved ones. We love you and look forward to our continued journey with You as we walk together toward a life filled with more peace, trust, strength, and discipline.

Prayer of St. Francis

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace:

where there is hatred, let me sow love;

where there is injury, pardon;

where there is doubt, faith;

where there is despair, hope;

where there is darkness, light;

where there is sadness, joy.

O divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek

to be consoled as to console,

to be understood as to understand,

to be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive,

it is in pardoning that we are pardoned,

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.
